First time buyer on Rebel XSi DSLR-Chose
B. Stubblefield
I have a DSLR the first time. It took about three weeks to research before you finally take the plunge. If you’re like me, you probably read about a hundred reviews of Amazon, [...], CNET, reports of consumers, and so on. Your head hurts, probably from now. I’m going to try to make it as easy as possible. If you’re in the market for an entry-level DSLR that can be great, and you do not have a budget that is equal to the GDP of a small country, then perhaps looking at the Canon XSi, Nikon few, and this guy.
Why you should choose the T1i Rebel Xsi or the Nikon:
1. The screen is way better. There are 920,000 dot color on 3 inch screen. The pictures look awesome, even before they load onto your computer. This is better than both the XSi or the Nikon 5000 – both are 230,000. It might not seem that makes a difference, but it is how to compare a plasma HDTV CRT TV with a shiny new 90s. There is a difference and you will not want to go back.
2. Film! You can record high quality HD movies with T1i, but it is not possible with the XSI. The Nikon has the ability to cinema, but stops at 1280 x 720 (24 fps). The T1i is 1920 x 1080 (1080P, 16:9) @ 20 fps (which is probably way bigger than necessary). There have been some complaints about the positioning of the microphone and the general noise environment is captured in the video recording capabilities, but I had the same problem making movies with my point of movies that can shoot. If you want to do a full-length movies, you probably need a video camera. But this is no longer able to catch things that occur in all, as the waterfalls, the grandchildren of the game, or baby sleep. I found the ability to conveniently film (it was not hidden in some menu screen, there are dedicated buttons) and you can even take pictures in the middle of recording a movie if you see an impressive shot in the middle of shooting.
3. HDMI output. Did not think this would be a great outlet, but it’s very nice to connect the camera to your HDTV and view a large version of photo and video. HDMI makes a big difference to show each hair on the face of your dog, every leaf in a scene from the landscape. It could also be pretty impressive if you have to show a presentation at a party, etc. The HDMI cable is not included, but it is relatively inexpensive. There is included a cable that connects to your TV if you do not need the ability to HD.
4. Finally, and this is more a personal preference, but if this is your first DSLR you are buying into a complete family of products, choosing a brand. I was dead set against the idea of presenting all those lenses, accessories, and bodies around. But in the end I was hitting a wall with my “prosumer” point and shoot, and needed to get to that step further. There is a satisfactory “magnet” for the series of the rebels, and the T1i is an extremely well built camera that will last a long time. It feels much in your hands is the lightest of the three cameras mentioned above, and is a technology that would stretch far enough, since it was announced some months ago.
It is worth more than a hundred dollars to get the T1i against XSI, because this is the latest series of rebel and makes improvements to be sufficient (in movie mode, better screen, and the obvious 15.1mp vs 12.1 and 12.3) to justify ’step whether buying your first DSLR.
